first day...

Ok, I am writing this at 9:20 p.m after just getting home from my first day at the new job. WOW... is all I can say. My day started at 4:45 a.m when I had to get up to get ready to be to work by 5:45 a.m. I got to work and clocked in and immediately started running. I had 8 patients to get blood pressures, SO2 sats, heart rates, respirations, blood sugars, etc. The next time I looked at the clock, I had already been there 3 hours. I took out catheters and IVs. I transferred patients, I wheeled patients out that got to go home, I watched chest tubes get removed, answered call lights, I learned how to do all the computer charting, made beds, and talked with a lady that just had her leg amputated. I got to sit for a total of 30 minutes today while I ate my lunch. Needless to say.... my legs, feet, and back are tired and sore. I had the best CNA and RN teaching me the ropes. I feel super overwhelmed with everything I have to learn. Every one is so understanding and so willing to help me learn. I feel a lot of pressure to be really good at my job because every conversation I had with other CNAs and RNs today went like this.... "Where are you coming from?" (me) "This is my first CNA job ever" (them) "Are you kidding me? How did you get on at the hospital, on days, without any experience?" (me) "I know, I feel so lucky. I am just really nervous." (them) "You are very lucky! That is awesome! Welcome to the team."  So now I feel like I need to be AMAZING so I don't let anyone down. Well I ran all day and before I knew it, it was 6:00 p.m. I reported to the night nurse and clocked out. I ran and picked up Konner and Zaydee from my moms to take them to check out the new learning center. The hospital has a learning center for Intermountain employees to take their kids while they work. It is an great program. They have strict curriculum they teach, balanced meals, amazing teachers, and a great facility! The one week day I work, I will have the option to take the kids there if my mom or Joyce is not available. It is set up just like a school but so much nicer! I had high expectations and it exceeded them. After I took the kids to get familiar with the school, before they just got dropped off there, I took the kids back to my mom so I could go to school. Chemistry..... ugh.  Well I just got home and am going to bed! I have 4 twelve hour days in a row plus 3 tests for school. This is going to be the hardest week. The rest will seem like a breeze when I get on my set schedule. I just wanted to remember this day and this feeling so when I graduate school and don't have to work my A$$ off, I will have empathy for those that are doing it. Night.... 4:30 is going to come early

Silver teeth...

A year ago, Konner went to the dentist for a cleaning.  The dentist told us his teeth were great, no cavities, and sent us on our way with a book, a balloon, and a free dinner to Red Robin. Konner had a great experience and was excited to go back in 6 months. So.... 6 months later we went back for another cleaning. This time the dentist said Konner needed 4 fillings and 4 caps!   WHAT?!!? I couldn't believe it! We were just there and his teeth were great! I was very leery of the diagnosis and wanted a second opinion.  Sure enough, he was in need of 4 freaking caps, and 4 fillings! The dentist wanted to put him under to do all the work..... ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!?? I was a nervous wreck. After talking to my mom for hours about it, I decided it was an ok thing to do.  We had to be at the dentist at 6:30 a freaking m! They do the sedation appointments in the early morning because the kids can not eat 12 hours prior. When we got to the office, I was soooo nervous about the whole thing. They gave Konner a little medicine to make him loopy. We sat in the waiting room for about 15 minutes... then came the WORST part... the dentist came out and said, "Ok, I will carry Konner back. We will see you when we're done"   AHHHH... I was so scared that something was going to go wrong. I wouldnt be back there to know what was going on. No one cares about him as much as I do, and that freaked me out! I asked lots and LOTS of questions and then they were gone. I waited in the waiting room, trying to study... (I was to nervous to concentrate)  At about 8:30 the dental assistant came out to get me. Konner was done but still ZONKED out. We waited in the recovery room while I held Konner, waiting for him to wake up. The dentist told me about 5% of kids have a reaction to the anesthesia that makes them sick.... WELL, KONNER WAS ONE OF THE 5%. He threw up all over his head during the procedure. They gave him a little sponge bath before they brought him out. I felt so bad. He threw up 3 more times in the recovery room and then finally woke up. They let us go home at 10:30. Getting out of the office was quite the chore. I had to carry Konner cause he couldnt walk. I had all my school books, sleeping Zaydee, and a purse that weighs 1 billion lbs! The girls were awesome. They carried Zaydee and my school stuff so I could get Konner out. He threw up on the way home and 2 times when we got home.  The good news is, he didnt remember any of the pain. He got over the sickness by about 2 and was good to go. He wanted a mirror so he could see his silver teeth. He wanted to show every one how cool they were.

Life flight

Sandstone Elementary School won the best tree at the Jubilee of Trees this year. One of the prizes was to have the life flight helicopter land at the school and let all the kids see inside of it. Well, since my mom works there, we got to go check it out too. Konner was AMAZED! We got to watch it land and then go check out the inside. After all the kids took a little tour, we got to watch it take off again. It was a really neat experience for the kids.

Zaydee turned 3!

We had all her friends over for a little celebration. It turned out perfect! We played some little princess games, had cake and ice cream, and opened presents.
