first day...

Ok, I am writing this at 9:20 p.m after just getting home from my first day at the new job. WOW... is all I can say. My day started at 4:45 a.m when I had to get up to get ready to be to work by 5:45 a.m. I got to work and clocked in and immediately started running. I had 8 patients to get blood pressures, SO2 sats, heart rates, respirations, blood sugars, etc. The next time I looked at the clock, I had already been there 3 hours. I took out catheters and IVs. I transferred patients, I wheeled patients out that got to go home, I watched chest tubes get removed, answered call lights, I learned how to do all the computer charting, made beds, and talked with a lady that just had her leg amputated. I got to sit for a total of 30 minutes today while I ate my lunch. Needless to say.... my legs, feet, and back are tired and sore. I had the best CNA and RN teaching me the ropes. I feel super overwhelmed with everything I have to learn. Every one is so understanding and so willing to help me learn. I feel a lot of pressure to be really good at my job because every conversation I had with other CNAs and RNs today went like this.... "Where are you coming from?" (me) "This is my first CNA job ever" (them) "Are you kidding me? How did you get on at the hospital, on days, without any experience?" (me) "I know, I feel so lucky. I am just really nervous." (them) "You are very lucky! That is awesome! Welcome to the team."  So now I feel like I need to be AMAZING so I don't let anyone down. Well I ran all day and before I knew it, it was 6:00 p.m. I reported to the night nurse and clocked out. I ran and picked up Konner and Zaydee from my moms to take them to check out the new learning center. The hospital has a learning center for Intermountain employees to take their kids while they work. It is an great program. They have strict curriculum they teach, balanced meals, amazing teachers, and a great facility! The one week day I work, I will have the option to take the kids there if my mom or Joyce is not available. It is set up just like a school but so much nicer! I had high expectations and it exceeded them. After I took the kids to get familiar with the school, before they just got dropped off there, I took the kids back to my mom so I could go to school. Chemistry..... ugh.  Well I just got home and am going to bed! I have 4 twelve hour days in a row plus 3 tests for school. This is going to be the hardest week. The rest will seem like a breeze when I get on my set schedule. I just wanted to remember this day and this feeling so when I graduate school and don't have to work my A$$ off, I will have empathy for those that are doing it. Night.... 4:30 is going to come early
